About the event
I Clivi is a small, family-owned estate in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, one of Italy’s great white-wine regions and arguably the country’s most exciting place for distinctive, age-worthy whites. At I Clivi, great wine begins not in the cellar, but in the earth. That was the conviction of founder Ferdinando Zanusso, a fascinating man whose life took him from working with the United Nations in Somalia to cultivating some of Friuli's most extraordinary old vineyards. His son Mario continues that legacy today, producing wines of remarkable purity, elegance and character.
Tucked into the hills of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, near the Slovenian border, I Clivi's vineyards include vines 60–80 years old, rooted deep in ancient ponca soils of marl and sandstone. Ferdinando believed that the less a winemaker interfered, the more the land could speak. The results are wines of freshness, minerality and surprising longevity — including a Friulano that was still vibrant nearly twenty years…
