Inside a tasting
Recent tastings have included Barone Ricasoli, whose family has made Chianti Classico at Castello di Brolio since the 1100s, and Ceretto, one of the defining family estates of Barolo and Barbaresco. Historic wineries like these don't typically pour for ten people in a neighborhood bar. But they do for our wine club.
How membership works
Step 1) Join the club
Purchase your membership and within minutes, you'll receive your booking code via email. This covers the cost of your monthly tasting. Don't see it the email? Check your spam or promotions folder.
Step 2) Pick your tasting
Select from one of our monthly tastings — it's included in your membership! Enter your booking code at checkout where it says "add coupon," and your ticket price comes to $0. After that, a new booking code arrives on the 15th for the following month’s tastings. This doesn't preclude you from joining us for more than one monthly tasting, your 20% membership discount is automatically applied at check out!

Plans change? Cancel ahead
Cancel your booking in advance and your monthly tasting stays open for another date. If you don’t cancel, the tasting counts as used.

AIS-certified expertise behind every tasting, every bottle, every glass.
Sommelier and owner Carolyn Papetti has spent her career curating wine programs, most recently the approachable yet exclusive list at I'm Eddie Cano. Trained in Rome, where she earned her sommelier certification through the Associazione Italiana Sommelier (AIS), she returned home inspired to bring the city's beloved enoteca tradition to life at the Italian Bar.

What is The Italian Wine Society?
The Italian Wine Society is a monthly wine club at the Italian Bar in Chevy Chase, DC, built around small-group tastings with Italian winemakers, importers, and producers. It's intimate, approachable way to learn more about Italian wines directly from the source!
Membership starts at $49 a month, with a three-month commitment. Cancel anytime after that.
Do I have to use my tasting every month?
Your membership includes one tasting per month. Your seat is reserved when you book, so if plans change, cancel your booking in advance to keep your monthly tasting available.
Can I bring a guest?
Socio Gran Riserva includes a guest at your monthly tasting. Socio Riserva members can bring a guest to any additional tasting at member pricing, subject to the ten-seat cap.
What to expect at a wine tasting?
A group of ten gathers at the bar for a guided tasting led by the winemaker, importer, or producer behind the wines. You taste through the range, hear how it's made and where it comes from, and can buy select bottles afterward at member pricing.
What if I can't make the tasting I booked?
Cancel at least 48 hours ahead of time and your monthly tasting stays open for another date. If you don't cancel, the seat was held for you and the tasting is used.
Can I attend wine tasting events if I'm not a member?
Yes. Non-members may purchase tickets and attend events. We encourage everyone to book a tasting and see if membership is right for them.
