About the event
This is a tasting we’re especially excited about. Agricola Punica was founded in 2002 in the wild, sun-drenched Sulcis region of southwestern Sardinia, bringing together some extraordinary names in Italian wine: Tenuta San Guido, the family behind Sassicaia; Cantina di Santadi; Antonello Pilloni; and legendary winemaker Giacomo Tachis.
Tachis — one of the most influential figures in modern Italian wine — had worked in Sardinia for decades and became convinced that the island’s sandy soils, Mediterranean climate and native Carignano could produce wines of international stature. Agricola Punica became the realization of that idea.
The estate centers on the Barrua and Narcao properties in the Basso Sulcis, where native Sardinian grapes meet carefully chosen French varieties. The flagship Barrua is built primarily around local grapes, with a small addition of French varieties, and spends roughly 18 months in French oak, producing a powerful but polished wine full of ripe red fruit, Mediterranean herbs,…
